Platform support matrices for SNMP and SSH discovery.
SNMP vs SSH — What Each Protocol Collects
The app uses two protocols for device discovery, each with different strengths. SNMP is lightweight and fast, making it ideal for scheduled validation and Fast Path pre-verification with minimal device impact. SSH provides deeper discovery including LLDP neighbor collection and high data accuracy through structured parsing of command output.
Both protocols collect the core identity attributes (hostname, serial number, device type, and software version) used for inventory correlation. SSH additionally collects LLDP topology data (neighbors, local interface, neighbor interface, and neighbor management address) where the platform supports it — SNMP does not collect topology data.

When a Discovery Profile enables both protocols, the results are merged into a single Discovered Device record per IP address. Each protocol independently records its own reachability status and collection timestamps, so a device that answers SNMP but not SSH (or vice versa) is still fully discovered with whatever data its reachable protocol provides. The per-platform matrices below detail exactly which attributes each protocol collects on each platform.
